2026-2027 School Year: Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Dear Families, 

 

            Welcome back to school! My name is Mrs. Menendez and I will be your child's second grade teacher this year! Second grade is an important foundation year in your child's elementary career. Last year they learned to read and this year my job is to reinforce what they have learned and expand their phonological awareness, comprehension skills, increase their reading fluency and writing so that they will be able to read to learn along with exciting things in all subject matters. 

 

          I strive to make each day fun and enriching while the students acquire new skills that will enhance their learning. However, I will need your help in making this year a truly successful year. We will be a team that will be working together to help your child develop emotionally and academically. It really does take a village!

 

       As a teacher and a parent, I feel parents want to know a little more about the person who will be caring and educating their child for 180 days of the year so let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have a Master of Arts in Elementary Education, Certified in Elementary Education K - 5, and will begin my 18th year teaching at McKinley School this school year. I have taught first, second, and fourth grade. I LOVE teaching second grade because I feel I know just where they are coming from and where they are going! 

 

       I will be using ClassDojo as our primary source of communication. Through this, you will receive any important updates from the school as well as what occurs in our classroom. You can also private message me with any concerns or questions you may have.
