Welcome to Speech! 2024-2025
My name is Madison Katz and I am a Speech-Language Therapist at Mckinley Elementary School. One of our main objectives in the speech department is to help our students communicate functionally and effectively in their everyday environment. We work to achieve this through development of verbal and nonvebal communication skills, social interaction with peers, as well as augmentative and alternative communication AAC devices. Each speech therapy session is structured and tailored to the specific student’s needs in order to best help them communicate in the most effective way. Our goal is to provide the students with resources and tools that they can carry over into their natural environments such as the classroom, at home, or during daily life.
“What can I do at home?” Language is all around us! Make it a part of your everyday routine, trip to the store, playground, doctor’s office. You can model the labels for items through pointing, pairing it with photos, allowing the child to manipulate the physical items. This helps strengthen and support language development!
