Ms. Elnaggar
Dear Students and Parents,
Summer has finally arrived!!! And along with summer, we must think about ways to keep our students’ brains active to help avoid that summer slide.
Research shows that reading books during the summer may help a reader from regressing. We want our students to continue to grow and maintain the skills they have worked so hard to develop. In an effort to help them stay on track, we recommend that students read and log thirty minutes of reading 3-4 times a week on the NB Reads Every Day (NB R.E.D.) sheet.
Students and parents are encouraged to check out the district English Language Arts page where you can find the 2020 Summer Reading Resources tab for additional articles and resources! We’ve updated our Videos tab to include more read-alouds for readers to enjoy which are similar to books shared during our wonderful Battle of the Books.
Students from grades K-6 will receive a class code from their homeroom teacher from GetEpic. GetEpic is an online reading resource that will provide students with two free hours of reading per week this summer. Feel free to use the site or download the application as another source for literature. Take a quick peek at PBS Summer Reading Camp, Scholastic Summer Read-A-Palooza, Barnes & Nobel Summer Reading Program and Reading Rockets Recommended Summer Reading List for more ideas. Lastly, the North Bergen Public Library has just announced its Curbside Pick Up and Virtual Summer Reading Program.
We encourage students to take a book wherever they may go and would love to see updates on all our students reading this summer! Post pics of your child(ren) reading in their favorite book on our North Bergen Elementary ELA Facebook page #NBRED. Feel free email us at [email protected] with pictures or to share a story that you enjoyed and we will post it on our Facebook page for all!
I wish you all a safe and wonderful summer!
